DO YOU KNOW WHY THERE ARE BUMPS ON F AND J KEY OF THE KEYBOARD?

DO YOU KNOW WHY THERE ARE BUMPS ON F AND J KEY IN THEKEYBOARD???

A lot of us have been to typing class in school where we are taught the proper way to type so that we can do it quickly and efficiently. What they do not teach you though is why certain letters, specifically J and F have bumps on them!

Things change in technology all the time, but the one thing that has stayed the same is the keyboard. Have you ever noticed that it hasn’t made very many changes? When you are typing, these two keys are actually designed to help with a certain part of using a keyboard, and you probably didn’t know why.
We do not often think about why everyday things we use are set up the way that they are. But the keyboard is set up in a very specific way so that there can be a universal way to teach people how to type quickly and well. Everyone that has taken a typing class remembers which fingers are supposed to be put on what letters.
Even the numbers and the grammar symbols are set up in such a way that it is easy to use them while you are writing your letters down quickly. When things are set up in a way that is easier for you to physically use, the muscle memory develops quicker which is the intention with the keyboard design.

These tiny bumps actually help improve your speed and accuracy when typing. It all has to do with where you place your fingers on the keyboard.

When you are preparing to type something, your fingers naturally go to the F and J keys, which lets you know that the ASD and KL keys are nearby.

This minor invention was made by June E. Botch and it makes the keyboard even more useful without people even realizing it. It’s hard to say if the keyboard didn’t have the bumps on these two letters if it would affect typing or not.
